How To Make Blank Templates
I'm sure you go around websites and you browse into the goodies section, and you see a blank templates for people to use and with thier own graphics, well this tutorial is pretty easy and will show you how to do that. Key thing, your imagination :)
Lets make a Avatar, open a blank white or any colored image but white is usually best, size 100x100pixels.
- Next go to your Layers Palette, right click on the laye and duplicate it, then drag the background layer into the trash bin like this:
- It would be a good idea to zoom in to about 400%, you can do this using the Navigator, if you don't see it go to Window >> Navigator and it will pop open for you.
- So your staring at the blank image, and your imagining where you want your template to be transparent.
- Now that you picked a place, go to your Tools Palette, click on the Rectangular Marquee Tool
and make a selection on your blank image, if you make the selection near the sides make sure you leave about 3 or 4 pixels from the edge because later you will be making a border and you want there to be space between the border and the transparent part like this:
- Now click on DELETE on your keyboard and it will delete ONLY that selected section.
- Continue doing the selection and deletion until you have finished what you wanted on your template.
- Now that you have the areas transparent we need to add a border around it to make it look nice, first lets add the border to the whole template, so CTRL+A then go to Edit >> Stroke an make sure the pixel size is 1 and the color black, click okay.
- To make the border around the transparent areas, use the Rectangular Marquee Tool
go around the sides of the transparent areas make a 1 pixel selection. Kind of the same way you did when you made the transparent sections, but do not go onto the already made transparent areas try to keep the selection on the outside of it like this.
- Continue doing that for all your template, my results are below. It's not the best so I did a quicky lol.
- You see the transparent areas (the checked looking part) and the black 1 pixel border.
- Now you need to save this becaues your all done, go to File >> Save For Web and make sure it saves as a .GIF with transparency like this:
- Your done, yay
