Scotch Tape
This is a pretty cool effect to add to layouts, they look so realistic, the Scotch Tape.
Open up the image you want to use the Scotch Tape tutorial on.
- Go to Layers >> New >> Layers
- Go to your Tools Palette and click on the Rectangle Marquee Tool
and draw a rectangle about the size you would like the scotch tape to be, like this:
- Your scotch tap area will have the blinking dashed line, go to your Foreground colors and change it to #c0c0c0:
- Using your Bucket
fill the area or your scotch tape:
- Now go to your Layers Palette and change the Opacity to 50% so it looks like this, then click on CTRL + D to Deselect:
- Zoom in to your picture to about 400% use the Navigator Top Left Corner, to make it easier to do the next step.
- Use the Polygon Lasso tool
and starting from the top left of the grey rectangle, create a jagged edge along the edge, do both sides like this (this is zoomed in at 400%).
- Once you reach one end, then click the start point to close it, it will look like dancing ants. Then click on CTRL+D to delete the area that is selected, leaving you the jagged edge of a scotch tape.
- So your scotchtape looks like this now, yours will probably look much better:
- Now that its done, were going to rotate the tape so that its slanted and looks realistic.
- Make sure that you have the Scotch Tape layer on your Layers Palette selected so whatever you do next is applied ONLY to the scotch tape and not to the whole image.
- Make sure your Rectangle Marquee
is selected then, Go to Edit >> Transform >> Rotate, you will see this now:
- Now move your mouse over it and you will see a two sided arrow use that to Rotate the scotch tape to an angle you like.
- Now go to your Layers Palette, right click on the Tape Layer and click on Duplicate Layer, then drag down to the opposite corner.
- Duplicate the Layer again, drag to the other corner, then with your Marquee Tool selected go to Edit >> Transform >> Rotate and rotate the scotch tape so that its facing the correct way, repeat for the last corner, and your all done!
